Airport asylum procedure for minors
Liberal practice as prelude to a children clink?

As a structural declaration to break international conventions on protection of children sees the Nation-wide Human Rights Association for Refugees PRO ASYL current plans, who will provide according to the Federal Border Police reception facilities allegedly suitable for children in the transit zone of the airport. The long-lasting internment of minors at the airport is in no case compatible with the Hague Convention on Protection of Minors and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Federal Border Guard speaker Klaus Ludwig had denied information of PRO ASYL before, that unaccompanied minor refugees have apparently been taken off the airport asylum procedure according to a decision of Federal Minister of the Interior Otto Schily . He connected this with the note on „reception facilities suitable for children“ being available by middle of next year. ..

PRO ASYL speaker Heiko Kauffmann reminded of the fact, that refugee children after implementation of the so-called airport regulation of the Act on Asylum Procedures at first were not detained at the airport. This happened first due to the ruling of the former Secretary of the Interior Kanther in 1994 and was critisied sharply by the German children protection organisations…

Heiko Kauffmann: „If the Federal Border Guard dementi is correct, then PRO ASYL has had apparently a too high opion of Mr. Schily’s fondness for children and his political forcefulness… With the care of children in a special reception facility outside the airport Schily would have been on the right path…
